Jemimah Rodrigues: One of the young stars in Indian Cricket team

Jemimah has represented Maharashtra at Hockey as well as Mumbai at Cricket. She is an efficient hockey player and still plays hockey when she’s tired playing cricket. Her strength lies in her technique more than power and she is skillful with her shots.

She was selected for U-17 and U-19 Maharashtra hockey teams. She made her U-19 Cricket debut at the age of 12-and-a-half during the 2012-13 season. Two years later, she broke into the Mumbai senior Cricket team. She had to make a choice whether she wanted to play on the hockey turfs or on the 22-yard cricket pitches. It certainly was a dilemma for her but she chose the latter and her decision was justified when she became the second woman after Smriti Mandhana to score a double ton in a 50-over match.

She is Jemimah Rodrigues, the opener from Mumbai who scored 202 off just 163 deliveries in the match against Saurashtra in Aurangabad. Her record innings came just a few days after her 178 off 142 balls against Gujarat in the under-19 tournament where she missed her double ton.

The 17-year old hails from Bhandup where she would practice with her brothers, Enoch Rodrigues and Andy Rodrigues. She began as a right arm off-spinner but soon improvised her batting so much that she became a full fledged all-rounder and started opening innings for Mumbai. Not only with the bat, she also became consistent with the ball and became the prime bowler for her team.

Her consistent performance and hard work paid off when she got her national call this year and she made her T20 debut in February where she scored 37 runs off 27 deliveries. So far, Jemimah has played nine matches for India in the 20-over format and has a half-century and 145 runs to her name. She made her ODI debut in March, 2018.

Currently, she is in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup T20.

Jemimah is a young talent who just needs to keep learning and growing. She has an aggressive approach, as well as the ability to mould her temperament as per the situation and with proper guidance, she will definitely bloom as a cricketer.
