The weekend saw some close action at the Islam Gymkhana as the second round of the 68th Salar Jung Community T 20 Invitational tournament was played. Hosts Islam Gymkhana held their nerve and beat the Mumbai Police team by 10 runs.
Batting first Islam gymkhana could manage only 124 as their entire team was out in 18.5 overs. With the beautiful sea breeze cooling of things on a hot day, Islam Gymkhana bowlers took on the mantle and dismissed the opposition 10 runs short of the target as Mumbai Police could make 114/8 in 20 overs.
The Mumbai Police are the last years Runners Up. Shoaib and Harish Panchal were the heroes of Islam Gymkhana as they took 4 quick wickets to skittle through the middle order of the Mumbai Police and won a tight match.
20 teams are participating in this annual tournament and the matches are being played at the Islam, Hindu, Parsee and Bombay Gymkhana. Four quarter-finals are scheduled for today with the semis and finals to be over the weekend at Islam Gymkhana.
