As the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Twitter Jack Dorsey announced to step down, Parag Agrawal, who is an IIT Bombay graduate, is all set to replace him and head the global tech company.

Releasing an official statement, the micro-blogging site, on Monday, November 29, noted that Dorsey will stay on the board of the social media company until his term expires in 2022.

Jack took to Twitter and said: "I've decided to leave Twitter because I believe the company is ready to move on from its founders. My trust in Parag as Twitter's CEO is deep. His work over the past 10 years has been transformational. I'm deeply grateful for his skill, heart, and soul. It's his time to lead."

In response, Parag Agarwal expressed his gratitude and tweeted: “Deep gratitude for Jack and our entire team, and so much excitement for the future. Here’s the note I sent to the company. Thank you all for your trust and support.”

Who is Parag Agarwal?

Parag Agrawal holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B).

Parag Agrawal, IIT alumnus, joins the likes of Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella as Indian-origin techies at the help of the biggest tech companies of the world.

Before joining Twitter in has worked in Microsoft, Yahoo, and AT&T labs before joining Twitter in 2011.

A decade with Twitter

Agrawal joined Twitter in 2011 as an ads engineer and has served as Chief Technology Officer or CTO since October 2017. He is well-liked by Jack Dorsey, one likely factor that helped him clinch the top post at Twitter.

According to the company statement, as CTO, Agrawal has been responsible for the company's technical strategy, leading work to improve development velocity while advancing the state of Machine Learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) across the company. He was also in-charge of the Bluesky vision of Twitter for an open and decentralised social media.

Prior to being appointed CTO, Parag had risen to be Twitter's first Distinguished Engineer due to his work across revenue and consumer engineering, including his impact on the re-acceleration of audience growth in 2016 and 2017.

Glimpse of his personal life

Parag Agrawal is married to Vineeta Agarwala, who is a physician and adjunct clinical professor at Stanford School of Medicine. The couple lives in San Francisco in California, United States. The couple have a small boy named Ansh Agrawal.
