Popular English general entertainment channels, AXN and AXN HD will not be available from June 30. Through a letter dated May 30, major broadcaster, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) released a statement regarding the same, informing the decision about the channels.

The statement signed by Anuj Yadav, AVP - Distribution Operations, said, “With reference to the aforementioned subject matter, kindly note that we will be discontinuing the operation of our channels AXN and AXN HD, Genre- General Entertainment Channel (English) w.e.f the midnight of 30th June 2020.”

Reports also state that the decision was taken keeping the channel's growth strategy in mind, and officials will focus on realigning the channel portfolio.

Further, TRAI's tariff order announced in 2019 also affected the channel where revenue drop was observed across English paid GECs. Besides this, the development of OTT platforms and their offering has also impacted the performance of this segment.

The media network, earlier in March, discontinued some more channels like Sony Mix, Sony ESPN SD and HD.
