SHARES

While there is a debate going on in regards to whether 2020 should be considered as the start of the new decade or not but we still thought it is a good time to have a look at some television serials that have left an impact in our minds and hearts. In the list we have tried to capture not the TRP chart busters of the last decade but the ones that needed to be acknowledged for their approach or their storyline or how they managed to make a mark.

While in the last couple of years, there has been an explosion of content with the advent of web series, we hope the makers continue to serve us some quality content even on the idiot box.

So here is our list of the best of the best in no particular order

1) Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi

Every once in a while there comes a show that is so relatable and KRPKAB (as it is known on internet) is one such show. It is a show about a mother who has the best interests for his son but she is also not comfortable sharing his love with anyone else (including his wife). This show stared Shaheer Sheikh, Erica Fernades in the lead and it shines for the brilliant writing in the show. The acting by the cast was another highlight.

2) Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

There are a few shows that can go on and on and fewer still that manage to hold on the interest of the audience. Ranjan Shahi’s Yeh Rishta Kya Khelata Hai manages to do just that. Over the years, the show continues to be popular among fans. It is Interesting how the show went on from one generation to the another and still continues to hold on to the audience.

3) Bade Ache Lagte Hai

Ever thought that a mature love story on Indian television could have such a pull? BALH was a trendsetter in that respect. A great deal of credit in this goes to Sakshi Tawar and Ram Kapoor for nailing their role to the T.

4) Naagin

Supernaturals series have been blockbuster in the west too and we too had our share with the advents of the Nagins. The show promises glamour and unexpected tourns mixed in mysticism. Made for weekend viewing with limited episodes each season, Naagin is one of the most talked-about show of the season.

In the first season, the show had Arjun Bijlani, Mouni Roy and Ada Khan in the leads. The current season, on the other hand, stars Sayantani Ghosh, Nia Sharma, Vijayendra Kumeria and Jasmin Bhasin.

5) Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
A simple love story that managed to connect with the audience for over 6 years. It is hard to believe that this was possible? However, Ekta Kapoor made this happen.

It is a story of Raman Bhalla, who post his divorce is unable to give the kind of attention that his daughter deserves. Enter Ishita, the next-door neighbour, who is drawn to Ruhi (Raman's daughter) as soon as she meets her. Later for the sake of Ruhi, Raman and Ishita get married and their love story starts.

6)Coming
When one talks about the TV love stories of this decade, then one cannot miss mentioning IPKKND. Arshi or Arnav Singh Raizada (also known as ASR) and his beloved Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada. The chemistry between Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani was the talk of town and every character in this show managed to leave an impact. It has been years since the show went off air but its popularity has not diminished.

7) Yeh Un Dino Ki Baat Hai

The best word to describe this serial is - nostalgia. It takes you down the memory road when there were no mobile phones and yet people were connected better than they are now! A simple love story set in the 1990s and the charm of the era!

8) Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan

This show celebrated friendship. It aired on MTV and went on for two seasons. The third season was launched later for the streaming app Voot. The chemistry between the lead pair Parth Samthaan and Niti Taylor was the main talk point of the show.

9) Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon

The show that stars Vivian Dsena and Drashti Dhami is remembered for getting movie like gradeour on Television screens. At the launch of this show, the producers had mentioned that even to break even, they would need the show to run for at least six months. So this was a trendsetter of sorts.

10) Dil Dosti Dance

A love story with a twist of dance. The show aired on Channel V and was hugely pupoluar among the youth.

What we want from 2020

Coming over to the year 2020, we have high hopes from serial likes Kahan Hum Laan Tum and Paitala Babes. Both these shows started on a good foot and keeping it real even on the telly world. Patiala Babes in 2019 even came out with a hashtag, You Can Do it Ma, encouraging the moms of today to brace the changing world of technology and keep pace with the times.

We hope these shows will continue to offer wholesome entertainment in this decade. In addition to this, we also have high hopes from the upcoming show Dadi Amma Dadi Amma Maan Jaao. With this show, Seema Biswas is making a comeback on TV. The concept and the startcast is what is attracting us to this show.
