The number of local passengers on the Central Railway has increased significantly. Due to inadequate local services, passengers have to travel with a pushback. Therefore, to alleviate the problem of passengers and to make the local journey comfortable, the Central Railway decided to implement a 15-coach local project on the slower route from Kalyan to Kasara, Kalyan to Karjat. The lack of public transport and limited number of local services are forcing the passengers to shell more and risk their life by travelling in autos crowded trains and also violating social distancing norms.

This decision was taken two years ago and work is still underway on the survey and the planned cost of the project. As a result, the actual project is expected to take at least three to four years to complete.

While extending the length of all the platforms next to Kalyan, yard works, signals, overhead wires and other technical works will also have take place in some places, it was clarified by the Railways. As a result, with the increase in the number of 15-coach local trains, the number of round trips can be a great relief to the passengers.

The 15 coaches on Kalyan to Karjat route extension contract has been given to Mumbai Railway Development Corporation (MRVC). The cost of the project on both the routes will be sent to the Railway Board for approval soon, officials said. Once approved, a tender will be issued for the actual work.
