It has also come to light that 20 injured persons were treated on the spot in 108 ambulances; 6 others required hospitalisation and they are admitted to a nearby hospital, one injured is critical.

Police officials stated that the truck driver who lost control of the vehicle is absconding but the department have a strong lead to nab him. Further probe is underway.

This development came following an assessment by Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials Monday morning, November 21.

The driver turned off the ignition on a downward gradient slope and drove on neutral gear to save fuel but could not apply brakes later, the police added.

Bringing the accident, which took place on Sunday, November 20, back to light nearly 30 people were injured and over 40 vehicles were damaged after a tanker collided into several vehicles at Pune’s Navale bridge, reports stated.

The accident took place around 8.30 pm on the Katraj-Dehu road bypass of the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway

The accident resulted in a 48-vehicle pileup, a Pune Fire Brigade official said. As soon as the incident came to light rescue teams from the Pune Fire Brigade and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority reached the spot.

It is pertinent to note that a police official had earlier said a tanker lost control and hit the car. As the accident took place on the downward slope of the bridge and oil spilled onto the road, around 48 other cars got damaged.

During the accident oil spilled onto the road making it slippery which caused other vehicles to be added to the pileup. This led to traffic congestion on the road to Mumbai with jams over 2 km long being reported.

Navle Bridge is becoming a hot spot of accidents from last few days.

In a similar mishap, recently a woman was killed after being hit by a speeding car near the bridge on the outer ring road.
