In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maharashtra Department of Transportation has launched a new facility in order to allow aspiring students who want to learn driving to take examinations from home.

Meanwhile, aspirants wishing to apply for a learning licence can visit the road transport ministry’s Sarathi 4.0 website and take an online test using Aadhaar-based authentication.

According to the transport department, 3,527 students in the state passed the apprenticeship examination on Tuesday, June 15. As per sources, there were 307 candidates under Pune RTO. Moreover, there are reportedly 222 people under the Nashik RTO.

On the other hand, there are 191 candidates registered under Taddev RTO in Mumbai, 142 in Andheri RTO, 160 in Wadala RTO and 175 in Thane RTO. The number of those who have passed the examination sitting at home includes the candidates from Pune, Nashik, Pimpri Chinchwad and Solapur.

Furthermore, according to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, this move will not only be convenient for citizens but also reduce the burden on around 200 government officials at RTOs. According to reports, every year, 1.5 million learning licences are issued, and 2 million vehicles are registered in the state, the transport department said. Moreover, CM Thackeray inaugurating the two online systems stated that the transport department through this mechanism has put forward an ambitious step towards people’s welfare.
