The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) will clear the pending salaries of 31,000 employees today, while the rest of the employees will get their salary tomorrow.
The BEST Undertaking has been running into losses for a few years. The financial crisis in the BEST coerced the organisation into delaying the salaries of the 42,000 BEST employees this month.
The BEST has decided to pay off the salaries of the 42,000 employees on Tuesday and the remaining 11,000 employees will get their salary on 22 March.
According to sources, the BEST has sought financial help from the civic administration and the State Government, but claims not to have got any. This month, the BEST has taken a loan of Rs 160 crore from the Dena Bank to clear its pending dues.
