The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) approved a proposal for introducing 500 Midi buses on Tuesday, September 17. The buses will be brought by January 2020. Further, the BEST is all set to introduce a total of 7000 buses including mini, midi and air-conditioned buses to its fleet.

The 500 midi will be on wet lease for 10 years and ₹69.48 for per km to Shree Maruti Travels, according to which total ₹1,667 crore will be giving to the bus supplier by the BEST. Notably, the driver on these buses will be on a rental basis and there will be no conductor in the bus.
On Monday, September 16, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray along with BMC Chief Praveen Pardeshi unveiled Mumbai's first AC Mini Bus at Colaba Bus Depot. The 21-seat bus is all set to ply on Mumbai's roads and cater to the needs of the commuter with comfort.
