Though the railway police had claimed that no casualty was reported in the incident of fire in a goods compartment of a local train on Tuesday night, a 60-year-old woman has reportedly died of suffocation in the said incident.

As per information, the goods compartment of a CST-bound fast local train had caught fire between Vikhroli and Ghatkopar stations on Tuesday. As the commuters raised an alarm, the motorman had stopped the train. Though the alertness of commuters, motorman and guard resulted in averting a big tragedy, one Laxmi Swami (60) could not get down the compartment due to her old age. She died due to suffocation though it was not yet confirmed by the medical reports.

The incident of fire took place at around 8 pm on Tuesday and Laxmi Swami was found between Vikhroli-Ghatkopar railway stations at 9 am on Wednesday. When railway police took her to Rajawadi Hospital, doctors declared her dead.
