Mumbai - 145 lives were lost in the Indore-Patna Express train mishap near Kanpur on Sunday. The mishap was reportedly caused by fractures in the railway tracks. In Mumbai, such cracks on rail tracks are a common occurrence. In the last one year, more than 100 incidents of such cracks railway lines are no exception to such cracks.

What are the reasons for the cracks in the tracks?
-Old, outdated railway tracks
-No timely repairs
-Increased rail traffic
-Sudden increase in speed while negotiating turns
-Express trains carry a heavier load than wagons
-Railway officials examine the situation and file detailed reports, but no action is taken on these reports.
