After launching Mumbai’s first AC local, Western Railway (WR) has reserved two special coaches for women. This has been done on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Women commuters had demanded separate ladies coach which was acknowledged by the WR. The ladies coach has been painted green to make it easier for women commuters.

When the AC local was introduced, the local was painted in blue and silver colour. This created a lot of confusion amongst women commuters. Hence, WR decided to paint the ladies coach in green colour, so that it stands out.
In total, the WR has spent ₹5 lakhs for the ladies coach.
WR introduced AC local on December 25, 2017, which departed from Borivali station which ran till Churchgate. Mumbaikars were elated who helped WR earned ₹62,746 on the very first day of its service.
