The Mumbai Railway Police and civic authorities have fined a total of 512 passengers travelling on the suburban railway network for not wearing face masks on February 1. Also, these passengers were not allowed to enter the railway premises despite levying fines.

The local trains resumed for the general public on February 1. According to railway officials, the passengers, who flouted the norms on the first day had to pay a fine of INR 200 each.

The Chief Public Relation Officers of Central Railway revealed that 275 passengers were fined for not wearing a mask by Mumbai division of Railway with the help of BMC. Whereas, on Western Railways, 237 passengers were fined with the help of BMC for not wearing masks while on board.

Apart from that, about 400 passengers were caught while travelling without a ticket on the Western Railway. A fine of more than INR 1 lakhs has been recovered from them.

However, if commuters flout the rules, strict action will be taken against them and will not be allowed to travel.

After 10 months, the general public has been allowed to travel, the railway authorities are expecting overcrowding at every station. All preventive measures are being taken to control the congestion.

In a relief for Mumbaikars, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday, January 29, has announced that general public will be allowed to commute in the local trains during non-peak hours from February 1, 2021.

According to reports, travel for the general public will be allowed from the start of the first local train till 7 am. Later, from 12 pm to 4 pm in the afternoon and then post at 9 pm in the night.
