As the Mumbai local services resume for general public from today, February 1, the state government the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed rules and regulations adhering to the COVID-19 norms. However, if commuters flout the rules, strict action will be taken against them and will not be allowed to travel.

After 10 months, the general public have been allowed to travel, the railway authorities are expecting overcrowding at every station. All preventive measures are being taken to control the congestion.

Here are the rules to be considered while travelling:

1. Wearing masks is compulsory at the premises. Fine will be imposed if passengers are found without masks.

2. The entry and exit gates will be manned and there will be random checking in coordination with GRP and the commercial department to prevent the entry of unauthorised people into railway areas.

3. Barricades, ropes are designed to prevent overcrowding in any part of the station.

4. Platform staff are briefed regarding the nature of duties and gentle behaviour with passengers in all situations.

5. The number of entrances in each station will be decided based on the flow of passengers.

6. In case of overcrowding at the entrance and at the stations, the stations will be closed for some time.

7. Passengers will also have to exercise some restraint during peak hours. Measures should also be taken to ensure that passengers follow the distance rules while entering the station with masks and waiting for the locals.
