The Western Railways has installed an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Loco Inspection System at Trip Shed in the Bandra Terminus that is in the Mumbai division, reports highlighted. Previously, the loco inspection would be undertaken manually.

This according to reports, was time-consuming. But now, with the assistance of the AI system, inspection work will be carried out in a few minutes.

Based on reports, officials have elaborated on how the AI system will assist in harnessing efficiency and ameliorating the maintenance activities of the loco engines. Not just this, it is also believed to improve the loco outage. The system has been installed into service at the Trip Shed in Bandra Terminus from Saturday, December 18.

Additionally, it can undertake the inspection of the sides, underframe as well as roof of the loco train. Apart from this, narratives claim that it has the ability to measure the axle box temperatures, spot loose and hanging parts.

Furthermore, it can also undertake the wheel profile, foreign particles, brake block thickness, cattle guard defects and primary spring cracks, amongst others. According to accounts, it will also raise alarms for adequate intervention in case of emergencies.
