Commuters on Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1 are set to experience shorter travel times after a revised timetable was announced by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). The operational changes are scheduled to be implemented from July 13, with the journey between Belapur and Pendhar being reduced by 1 minute and 30 seconds. As a result, the one-way travel duration will now be completed in 25 minutes and 30 seconds. The improvement has been introduced as part of an operational optimisation exercise undertaken to enhance service efficiency and improve the commuter experience across the corridor.
It was stated by CIDCO that the revised schedule had been prepared after a detailed review of Metro operations. Passengers have been advised to familiarise themselves with the updated timetable before commencing their journeys. The changes have been introduced with the objective of improving operational efficiency while ensuring greater convenience for daily commuters. The revised timings are expected to make Metro travel more predictable and encourage greater use of the city's growing rapid transit network.
The announcement has come shortly after adverse weather conditions affected parts of Navi Mumbai. Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds resulted in a tree, along with a mass of soil and stones, sliding near RBI Colony Metro Station. Despite the incident, Metro operations were reported to have remained normal, with services continuing without disruption. The uninterrupted functioning of the Metro system during the monsoon has highlighted the resilience of the existing infrastructure and the preparedness of operational teams to manage weather-related challenges.
A significant development for the region's transport sector has also been approved by the Maharashtra government through the sanctioning of a ₹5,575 crore expansion of the Navi Mumbai Metro network. The proposal has been designed to extend the reach of the Metro system by introducing Metro Line 1A and Metro Line 2. Once completed, these new corridors will create an integrated 28-kilometre network connecting major residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts and transport hubs across Navi Mumbai.
Under the approved plan, Metro Line 1A will be extended between Sagar Sangam and CBD Belapur, while Metro Line 2 will establish a direct connection between Pendhar and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The expanded network has been planned to improve regional mobility, strengthen last-mile connectivity and provide faster access to one of the state's most important upcoming aviation projects. Increased connectivity between residential areas, business districts and the airport is expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles and road-based transport while supporting sustainable urban mobility.
