Since the beginning of this academic year, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus services have not been running to Gawande Vanje Yojana school in Mulund (East). This has left 50 to 60 students from Chinchpada, Airoli in a tight spot. These students have not been able to attend the school since mid-June.

The Gawande Vanje Yojana school is the nearest Gujarati-medium school to the Chinchpada slums in Airoli. Many affected students in area study in Gujarati medium. But, due to the lack of bus services, they are now facing challenges in attending the classes.

The main reason for this is that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has failed to pay BEST for their services this school year. This delay has caused inconvenience for the students and their families. Many students solely rely on the bus service to get to school. Now, they have been forced to stay home or make other arrangements.

The issue was first identified by social activists Chaitra Yadavar and Pranit Rao from Dira Social Welfare Foundation, who have stepped up to support the affected families. They are trying to restore bus services.

According to reports, a representative from the BMC's education division has claimed that they are working on a new proposal for bus services. This proposal is said to be in the final stages of the approval process. However, the delay in resolving the issue has already affected the students a lot. It has forced some students to switch schools or change their medium of instruction.
