From July 9, 2020, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses will begin with the process to issue and renew new bus passes to people. In a press release by BEST, it was mentioned that since the 'Mission Begin Again' initiative was announced, people from various companies have resumed work at their respective offices, and this move will help them during the commute.
Besides this, the authorities at BEST have also decided to extend the validity of the passes for people who have not been able to use during the lockdown. A new receipt will be issued to these people mentioning the extended date of the validity.
Currently, 2,926 buses are offering services in the city and the number of people commuting has been on a constant rise. The local train service is only available for essential workers whereas BEST services will be available to everyone.
Now that unlock has begun in different phases, people are slowly adapting to the ‘new normal’ and getting back to work, this decision taken by the BEST will come across as a huge relief to people, especially for the ones who are dependent on public transport and will be able to travel to their work without much hassle.
The total number of confirmed cases in Mumbai are 87,856. Whereas the total number of coronavirus cases in Maharashtra stand at 2,23,724 with total number of cured cases at 1,23,192 and active cases at 91,065.
