Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) is suffering a loss of ₹60 lakh daily owing to route change due to the construction of Monorail, Metro and bridges. Amidst the Himalaya Bridge collapse at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), civic authorities are re-constructing and repairing bridges that are in dilapidated condition.

In the last one year, BEST buses weren't allowed on Gokhale Bridge in Andheri and recently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) closed Juhu Tara Bridge for public access. This closure alone has resulted in BEST losing ₹60,000 for a bus fleet. Moreover, the ongoing construction of Metro and Monorail has further resulted in diversion or closure of BEST routes.

This, in turn, diverts the commuters to use other alternatives like taxis, carpooling and railways. Notably, on Tuesday, June 11, BEST and the Workers Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) claiming to maintain a fleet of minimum 3,337 buses and protecting the interest of workers. This even includes getting 1,250 buses and 80 electric buses on wet-lease.
