With an attempt to establish itself as the ultimate public transport in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) has been trying to make amends to its bus service. As a part of this, the bus corporation had decided to reduce its fare prices to a minimum of ₹5 for non-AC buses and ₹6 for AC buses. Further, the bus corporation even stated that their aim was to deploy 6,000 buses on the roads of Mumbai as compared to the existing 3,500.
After which, the service began regaining passengers who preferred public transport instead of other means of transportation. Due to which, on an average, only two or three buses out of 10 buses during peak hours were crowded with passengers. This caused the bus corporation to face losses and therefore, keeping in the mind the number of passengers, BEST decided to introduce 400 Midi, mini AC buses. Currently, six mini Ac buses are running on Mumbai roads.
Two of the six bus services run in Dadar between the BMC (G) North Ward Public Parking and Siddhivinayak Temple. The bus services, A-54 and A-55 have been started on the route and the service has been appreciated by the people. The first A-54 bus runs at 8:15 am whereas the last bus runs at 10:00 pm. On the other hand, the A-55 bus runs its first service at 8:00 am with the last bus running at 10:15 pm.
The mini AC bus service had been inaugurated on October 2, on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. According to the BEST officials, the mini bus received exemplary response on the first day itself. While the buses are smaller in size, these buses are said to hold more passengers.
