BEST starts two new routes
SHARES

In the past few months, we have seen Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) add a lot of new routes and ramp up its services. The Bus Service has also announced that 80 per cent of its fleet will now be running on shorter routes. The short routes here consists of 5km or less.

On Wednesday, the BEST bus service announced two new routes. The first route that is announced is the Route number A-153. The buses plying on this route will operate between Byculla Station(W) to Vasantrao Naik Chowk (Tardeo) via Saatrasta and Mumbai Central Station's. The first bus on this route will start operations from 6.30 am while the passengers wishing to travel on this route can catch the last bus at 9.30 pm.

The second route that has been started is in suburbs -- route A-211. This will be running between Bandra Station(W) and Chuim Village Bandra. The frequency of this bus service will be every 10 minutes and the first bus will start at 6:00 am and the last one at 10 pm.

In the past few months, BEST has been trying to revamp its operations. They are looking at increasing the ridership and even offering new incentives. Another new incentive that has been in the works is offering free rides to students and specially-abled kids. As per the proposal, this free service will only be available for students in school uniform once a day. The idea behind this move is to have the children warm up to the idea of travelling via Bus busses so that they have a favourable impression of the service growing up.

While one does not deny that BEST busses are offering an affordable means to travel but what we think is the major drawback that is stopping people from using this service is the traffic. People perceive that their journey will take a much longer time in a bus than via using other routes.
