Abolishing toll tax is one of the favourite topics of all politicians as many of them pressed upon this issue by protesting against it. Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil informed that the state had to return ₹400 Cr to the companies concerned for closing toll taxes at various places across the state.

But, it seems, that the state has to pay double if they close down toll booths at five entry points of the city. However, the same has not been done yet. Patil added that the report of the same has been submitted to the finance department after which a decision will be taken.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Eknath Khadse said that roads are in a poor state where toll booths have been closed. He also questioned the officials concerned regarding toll-free Maharashtra. NCP MLA Ajit Pawar too supported Khadse and said that the ruling party had promised to make Maharashtra toll-free but still the state is taking toll money from heavy vehicles.

What did Chandrakant Patil say?

In defence, Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil said that the state has shut down 53 toll booths and aims to make Maharashtra toll-free. He added that at the same time, they will try and not to take toll from heavy vehicles.
