Preparations for Chhath Puja in Mumbai have been intensified, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) unveiling a comprehensive plan to ensure smooth celebrations for devotees. The city is expected to witness large gatherings between October 27 and 28, 2025, as arrangements are being finalised under the guidance of senior civic and political leaders.

A review meeting to assess readiness for the festival was held at the BMC headquarters, chaired by Guardian Minister for Mumbai Suburbs, Shri Mangal Prabhat Lodha, and BJP Mumbai President and MLA, Shri Amit Satam. The meeting brought together top civic, police, and political officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioner Shri Amit Saini, Deputy Commissioner Shri Prashant Sakpal, and Additional Commissioner of Police Shri Paramjit Kumar Dahiya. Over 55 representatives from Chhath Puja committees across the city also participated to share their inputs and concerns.

During the deliberations, emphasis was laid on ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for worshippers. As per the decisions taken, the BMC will establish designated puja sites across Mumbai, complete with amenities such as clean drinking water, floodlights, tables for offerings, changing rooms for women, public toilets, and crowd management support. Deputy Commissioner Shri Prashant Sakpal informed that 40 sites have already been finalised, with potential expansion up to 60 based on committee requests.

Public transport is set to receive a significant boost during the celebrations. Acting on Minister Lodha’s directive, Additional Municipal Commissioner Shri Amit Saini confirmed that Metro and BEST bus services would operate late into the night to accommodate devotees travelling to and from the ghats. The coordination with relevant authorities has already begun to ensure uninterrupted connectivity during the two-day festival.

Minister Lodha emphasised that, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, the government has remained committed to facilitating inclusive and joyous celebrations of all cultural and religious events. He noted that the review meeting was a reflection of this commitment, aimed at addressing every logistical and civic requirement before the festivities commence.

BJP Mumbai President Shri Amit Satam proposed a new single-window system for granting permissions to Chhath Puja mandals, suggesting that approvals be made valid for a five-year period, similar to the Ganeshotsav model. The proposal was well received and approved by officials present, ensuring smoother coordination for future celebrations.

Considering that rituals often extend late into the night, representatives from Chhath Puja committees raised concerns about security. Additional Commissioner of Police Shri Paramjit Kumar Dahiya assured that adequate police personnel, along with CCTV surveillance, would be deployed at all major puja venues to maintain order and safety.

The Chhath Puja committees expressed appreciation for the government’s proactive measures and responsiveness. They conveyed gratitude to Minister Lodha and MLA Satam for their continued support and commitment to ensuring a seamless and spiritually enriching experience for devotees across Mumbai.

With extended public transport, improved civic facilities, and strengthened security, the city is set to witness one of its most well-organised Chhath Puja celebrations, reflecting the collective effort of the administration and community alike.
