A dead body was found hanging in an empty local train compartment during a routine maintenance check at Virar carshed. The body was found around 10:00 pm on Saturday.
Investigation of the case is underway
A senior official told the Free Press General that the railway police officials were immediately alerted. The body was then sent for post-mortem. Further investigation is being done by Government Railway Police. Meanwhile, in another incident, the body of a 32-year-old woman was found in a lodge in Thane district on December 10, the police informed. The body of Jyoti Todermal was found in a lodge in Kalyan city, informed an official of MFC police station.

Todermal had checked into the lodge with a person on Saturday afternoon and later left the lodge without telling anyone, he said. The housekeeping staff found the woman lying suspiciously dead in the room, the official said. The body has been sent for post-mortem and the cause of death could not be ascertained, he said, adding that the police are searching for the person.
