Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) workers strike has intensified after the administration issued a notice to workers under the Maharashtra Essential Services Maintenance Act (MESMA) asking them to vacate their houses.

On Thursday, a petition was filed against the strike in Bombay High Court. While hearing the petition on Friday, Bombay High Court slammed the petitioner Datte Mane asking if this could not be filed before the strike was initiated. The court will hear the petition on Monday, January 14.

While the BEST workers and their unions are determined to continue the strike, the Maharashtra government and BEST administration have called it illegal during the hearing of the petition. BEST workers union secretary Shashank Rao has told that they won’t back down from the strike until their demands are met.
