Part of bridge collapses between Andheri-Vile Parle on the railway track disrupting Western Railway services

On July 3, 2018, around 7:40 am, a part of Gokhale bridge collapsed on the railway track between Andheri and Vile Parle disrupting Western Railway services. Four fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the site. Some people are feared to be trapped under the debris. Five people are reported to be injured as search operation is in progress.

02:20 pm: After seven hours, the first CSTM-bound train leaves Andheri. Trans-harbour line resumes

 

12:19 pm: Cranes have been deployed to lift the slabs from the tracks near Andheri

11:28 am: Harbour line will resume by 2:00 pm

11:23 am: State Congress president Ashok Chavan says the Andheri bridge collapse was an unfortunate incident. He said an enquiry should be carried out and guilty should be punished

10:22 am: MLA Ramesh Latke blamed the BMC for the Andheri bridge collapse

Passing the buck on BMC, MLA Ramesh Latke, 

Inquiry should be conducted on BMC officials as bridge falls under their jurisdiction.” 

Citing Elphinstone Road tragedy, he said, 

This has happened again. Such negligence cannot be excused.
