Before the Elphinstone stampede — which claimed 23 lives — Indian railways literally ignored the news report that predicted the possible stampede. But, railways and state government have finally realised the vulnerable condition of the infrastructure after an unfortunate stampede.

It was this terrifying incident that made all the politicos, both from the state and central government, to visit the site and in a few days, sensing the public rage, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the bridge would be expanded in no time by the military officials. However, the officials are not able to productively work due to the lack of space on Elphinstone station’s foot-over-bridge (FOB).
