A huge number of passengers commutes in the local train across Mumbai on daily basis. Not all of them who travel carry ticket. There are smart commuters who like indulging in hiding and seek activity with ticket examiners. In the year 2016-17, Central Railway has collected a fine of Rs 128.63 crore. The rate of the fine has increased up to 6.68% when compared to the previous term.
Central Railway caught 26, 88,000 lakh passengers whereas the number of passengers caught last year was 24, 31,000 lakh passengers which are relatively low. Fine collected in the year 2015-16 was Rs 120.57 crore.
