The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) is reportedly expecting to begin commercial services in five stations starting from the Taloja end this year. There are a total of 11 stations under Phase 1 of Navi Mumbai Metro.

Officials said that commercial services between Kharghar’s Central Park to Pendhar in Taloja will commence by December 2021. However, the remaining services in the rest of the stretches will only start by December 2022.

The metro project was delayed due to a variety of reasons, and the CIDCO recently appointed Maha Metro to finish the pending works on the project.

The fact that one of the contractors was blacklisted for a delay in finishing the work also contributed to the delays. Meanwhile, CIDCO has reportedly allocated office space for the Maha Metro team at the Taloja Depot.

Earlier this week, officials and engineers from CIDCO and Maha Metro visited the site to ascertain the status of the project. With CIDCO continuing its role as the project proponent, Maha Metro is tasked with executing the project. It is said that Maha Metro has already deployed a team of 20 engineers for ground-level works.

CIDCO’s Public Relations Department released a press note stating, “After seeking safety certification from Commissioner, Metro Rail Safety (CRMS), the commercial operation between stations 7-11 (Central Park to Pendhar) is scheduled tentatively by the end of December 2021 and between stations 1-6 (Belapur to Kharghar sector 14) is scheduled tentatively by the end of December 2022.”

CIDCO has successfully conducted trial runs of Line 1 which measures 11.1 Kms with 11 stations and the Taloja depot. The agency hopes to significantly revamp Navi Mumbai’s transport system while it is also developing a total of four elevated corridors as part of Navi Mumbai Metro.
