The state government on Wednesday decided to establish a joint transport service of Kalyan-Dombivali, Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipality, Ulhasnagar Municipality, Ambernath Municipal Council and Kulgaon-Badlapur Municipal Council in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed the belief that citizens will get relief as another efficient public transport option will be provided for the Mumbai metropolitan area through the joint transport service.

This decision has been taken keeping in mind the needs of the people of this area. Due to this combined transport service, passengers will get transport service at fair fare. Also, the government claims that improving the public transport system in this area will help reduce the problem of traffic congestion.

Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Ambernath Municipal Corporation and Kulgaon Badlapur Municipal Corporation, which are close to the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation area, have proved that the transport services of the local bodies are not functioning at full capacity. Therefore, citizens were constantly demanding that bus services should be started in these areas through the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation transport activities.


Shahad Transport Building

For this joint transport service, it has been decided to construct a transport building for the administrative office of the joint transport undertaking at Shahad in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation area.

Government is focusing on electric bus pollution control and environment protection. As new electric buses will be included in this transport service, it will be possible to control or reduce the level of air pollution in the city.
