Observing the rise in coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, the state government of Maharashtra implemented a strict lockdown in the state from April 22 to May 1, 2021.

The state government of Maharashtra, on April 21, decided to impose a lockdown across the state, with an aim to brain the chain of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection. As per the announcement, this lockdown will be implemented from 8 pm on April 22, 2021.

Officials have decided to restrict the movement of the public across Maharashtra, and the state government has decided to implement the same until May 1, 2021. Keeping the same in mind, inter-district travel will be prohibited and it will not be possible for the public to travel by private mode of transport.

Meanwhile, Mumbai local train will once again run for the employees from the essential services, whereby only government employees, doctors, nurses, and essential service personnel can use the local trains. Other citizens cannot travel by trains.

Authorities have stated that the cabinet had been meeting regarding the same, for the past two days. and has reviewed the COVID-19 crisis in Maharashtra. Discussions were held to understand the need for a strict lockdown in the state. Keeping the same in mind, the decision was taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation, had suggested that lockdown was the last option, but observing the rise in cases, the state government decided that imposing a lockdown was a necessary step as the COVID-19 crisis, in the second wave, has affected the citizens significantly.
