Central Railways is one of the busiest rail lines and caters to close to a million passengers on a daily basis. Not only are the trains crowded but people are usually seen rushing to get to their train. 

To cut down the time people spend in queues for buying tickets, Railways decided to install Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) which received a tremendous response. As a result, Central Railways recently revealed that out of 10 lakh passengers who travel daily in local trains, three lakh passengers use ATVMs to buy tickets.

The rail corporation recently revealed that out of its daily ticket sales, 30 per cent of the tickets are sold via ATVMs. They further added that 60 per cent of tickets sold through ticket windows, 13 per cent sales come from authorised agents and the remaining five per cent tickets are booked via Central Railways' mobile application.

Alongside, to avoid queues at ticket counters, Railways has installed ATVMs, bar code scanners, and have also arranged for mobile tickets for its passengers. The services help the passengers attain the ticket within 10-20 seconds without any hassles.
