By November end, motorists will not only be able to register their vehicles but can acquire their driving licenses online at every regional transport office (RTO) across Maharashtra.

In the next few weeks, the transport department and the National Informatics Centre (NIC) will be done upgrading VAHAN 4.0 and SARATHI 4.0 systems at all RTOs.

SARATHI 4.0 developed by the NIC is a one-stop solution which is used to issue smart card-based driving licenses while VAHAN is used to register vehicles.

Currently, out of 50 RTOs, the VAHAN system is currently active at 49 RTOs while the SARATHI system has been implemented at 47.

An official told Hindustan Times: “The VAHAN 4.0 system has not yet been installed at the Buldhana RTO. The SARATHI 4.0 needs to be installed at the Buldhana, Pimpri-Chinchwad and Ratrangiri RTOs.”

He also pressed upon agents and touts issue who charge high fees to people in need.

The main motto of introducing online systems is to save time and money and curbing corruption at offices.

Recently, the department made 16 more VAHAN-related online services that include the transfer of ownership, vehicle sale after auction and change in address.
