Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the local train, which was closed for the last two months, has resumed on Monday. Only the essential service personnel will be able to travel through this locomotive.

The first train ran on the tracks around dawn on Monday. There is a possibility of 200 local trains on Central Railway and 120 local trains on Western Railway. Earlier, a meeting of railway officials was held to start local trains in Mumbai after which it was decided to start the Mumbai local. In order to curb the surge in the number of coronavirus cases, only the people who are engaged in essential services will be able to use the local trains. People like, police, doctors, nurses, municipal cleaners, journalists will be able to use it.

Western Railway

  • A total of 73 trains will run on the Western Railway's Churchgate to Dahanu route.
  • 8 trains will run between Virar and Dahanu Road stations.
  • These local trains will run from 5.30 am to 11.30 pm.
  • Many local trains will run from Churchgate to Virar.
  • Some local trains will run up to Dahanu.
  • Some fast locals will run between Churchgate and Borivali.
  • After Borivali, they will run at a slower pace to the next station.

Central Railway

  • A total of 200 local services will be run on Central Railway.
  • Locals will run on 100 up the route and 100 down route.
  • 130 locals will run between CSMT to Kasara, Karjat, Kalyan, Thane stations.
  • Of these, 65 will run up and the remaining 65 will run down.
  • These locals will be stopped at some major stations.

Local travel rules

  • Only essential staff will be able to travel in the local trains.
  • Ordinary passengers will not be allowed to travel.
  • Ticket windows will be opened for these passengers.
  • Individuals will get the ticket if the concerned employee shows the government identity card.
  • It has been decided to increase the validity of pass holder tickets.
  • Essential employees will be given access to the stations through their ID cards.
  • Employees will be issued QR code-based e-passes.
  • Employees who are medically sound will be allowed to travel by local.
  • Care should be taken to ensure that employees do not come to work from the containment zone.
  • Care should be taken not to crowd the train as well as the local station.
  • There will be no hawker and no parking area up to 150 meters in the railway station area.
  • Ambulances are required as an emergency service outside each station.
