36 Central Railway and 20 Western Railway employees test positive for coronavirus

As per an update released on May 8, 2020, it is known that 56 employees of the Western and Central Railways in Mumbai have tested positive for the coronavirus. This list includes Railway Security Force personnel (RPF), retired personnel including loco pilots. Of these 56 employees, 36 are from Central Railway and 20 from Western Railway, revealed the railway administration.

Workers infected with corona are undergoing treatment at Western Railway's Jagjivanram Hospital. So far, 28 railway employees have been discharged from the hospital, and 24 more employees are suspected to have tested positive for COVID-19. This includes 19 employees of Central Railway and 6 employees of Western Railway.

Reports also state that most of the patients belong to the Railway Security Force. Others include staff members of the technical team, loco pilots on express trains, hospital doctors, and retired staff. Employees have also been directed to inform the authorities if they come in contact with the patients and in any case, asked to stay at home.

The railway administration has also directed them to make necessary equipment such as masks, disinfectants, PPE kits available for the working railway personnel, security personnel and medical personnel immediately.

As of Friday, May 8, 2020, an update released by the state Health Ministry stated that 1089 new cases were identified in Maharashtra with 37 deaths in one day. More than 139 recovered from the infection. The total in Maharastra has now reached 19,063 cases with 731 deaths. Mumbai currently records 12,142 cases and 462 deaths.
