The Maharashtra government on February 11, decided to extend travel restrictions for those coming from Kerala. It will now be mandatory for travellers from Kerala to carry a COVID-19 negative report before entering the state.

This decision was taken following the state's active cases touched 64,390 on Tuesday, February 9, the highest in the country. Of the total active cases in the country, 1,41,511, Maharashtra accounts for 35,917.

Moreover, an observation was made by a three-member team of National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) leaded by Dr Sujeet Singh, who was in Maharashtra from Friday to Monday to take stock of the COVID-19 situation. The team pointed out that why the state is not imposing travel restrictions for travellers coming from Kerala. The team had visited Nagpur, Amravati, Akola and Yavatmal and pointed out that these areas have a high positivity rate.

According to reports, those without RT-PCR test reports shall have to compulsorily undergo RT-PCR test at the airports concerned at their own cost. They will be allowed to go home only after undertaking the tests. Those who test positive will have to be treated as per the existing protocol. Meanwhile, those coming by roads will have to undergo screening at border check posts.

Passengers with symptoms shall have the option of turning back and go to their home to recuperate. Passengers who display symptoms shall be segregated and made to undergo Antigen Test. If the Antigen test comes negative, the passengers will be allowed to travel further into Maharashtra.

Similar travel restrictions are already in place for four states — Delhi, Rajasthan, Goa and Gujarat since November 23.
