If you are planning to fly to and from the Mumbai airport, be ready to accept delays during peak hours as Instrument Landing System (ILS) that guides flight landings, will be out of service until June 5, 2018.

The upgradation of the system began on Thursday and will continue until June 5, 2018. It will be out of service from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.

An airport official told Hindustan Times,

If the visibility drops below 2,400 metres, the flight operation will be switched to the secondary runway 14. If the visibility further drops to 1,200 metres, which is the minimum requirement for the secondary runway, the airport will have to be closed. However, according to the meteorological department, chances of poor visibility are less in these 20 days.”

Further, the unavailability of ILS will not affect flight operations but at the same time, the airport witnessed air traffic congestion on Thursday and Friday.
