The Indian Railways is likely to reduce the ticket prices of single and return journeys of the first-class coaches. This development comes in order to increase passengers in first-class compartments.

The Union Railway Ministry is expected to give a nod for the same by the end of December or early January. Even though prices might go down, they will not be changing the structure of season railway passes.

If reports are to be believed, the reduction of fares is being done for political gains. The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is eyeing to win the Birhanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections scheduled to take place in February next year. They had also organised a major event at Mumbai Central station.

The function was chaired by the Union minister of state for railways Raosaheb Danve, and many key leaders like Devendra Fadnavis also attended the function.

The tickets for the first-class compartments will be at par with the Metro trains finalised by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). They would be lower than those of the single journey fares of AC trains.

A senior official from Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) said that along with revising the prices of the first-class compartments, they have also proposed a reduction in the prices of AC train tickets.

Meanwhile, Central Railways stated that the linking of the UTS Mobile App and Universal Pass will enable passengers to get their tickets seamlessly.
