SHARES

Shirdi has been the go-to place for a lot of cities in Maharashtra, especially Mumbai. Be it to seek blessings at Sai Baba’s temple or visit the Sula Vineyards in Nashik, weekend getaways to Shirdi/ Nashik are quite common.

Starting October 1st, one will be able to fly into Shirdi from Mumbai, which will majorly cut down on travel time and make shuttling between both the place for business or leisure easier. The trial run for the same is scheduled for 26th September. Alliance Air ATR 72 will be operational and several Directorate General Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials are expected to be aboard to monitor the flight.

The Shri Sai Baba International Airport will be inaugurated within the first 15 days of October by President Ram Nath Kovind. Four flights between Mumbai-Shirdi are scheduled as well as one each between Delhi-Shirdi and Hyderabad-Shirdi. Besides Alliance Air, TueJet and Indigo will most likely operate between the cities.

Features of Shri Sai Baba Airport:

  • 2,500m runway to accommodate Airbus A-320 and Boeing 737
  • 2,750 sq.m of terminal space
  • Hangar parking for four aircraft
  • Special bus/taxi service from Airport to Sai Baba temple(15km)

The authorities would like to have the airport fully operational before Sai Baba’s 100-year celebrations.
