Mumbai Local Train: Nearly 4 lakh passes issued in 2 weeks on both CR and WR

Due to a rise in coronavirus cases amid the second wave, train services were suspended for the general public on April 15. However, fully vaccinated general commuters were allowed to travel by local train after four months, that is from August 15.

According to the latest data received by the railways, it has issued four lakh monthly season passes to suburban passengers in a fortnight. 

The Central Railway (CR) has issued 2.74 lakh passes on its mainline, harbour and trans-harbour railway lines, while the Western Railway (WR) has issued 1.26 lakh monthly season passes.

Reports stated that the highest number of passes were issued at Dombivli on the Central line. Whereas, on the Western line, Borivali saw a maximum number of monthly season passes. Moreover, a large number of passes were purchased from Kalyan, Thane and Badlapur on CR. Besides, the majority of monthly passes have been issued at Bhayander, Kandivali, Andheri, Goregaon railway stations on the WR.

In addition, the Western Railway also issued 552 monthly season passes for air-conditioned (AC) local trains.

Meanwhile, railway officials said that the number of passes issued has been less than what was anticipated earlier.

Due to a rise in coronavirus cases amid the second wave, train services were suspended for the general public on April 15.

However, fully vaccinated general commuters were allowed to travel by local train after four months, that is from August 15. Apart from that, it is mandatory for the completion of 14 days since receiving the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
