With fully vaccinated individuals permitted to use the local train services in Mumbai from August 15 onwards, the BEST will restart its feeder route services as well. In light of this, reports claim that the BEST along its 51 feeder routes anticipates a rise in daily bus attendance by 4-5 lakh.

According to reports, an official has stated that with the daily present ridership at 21 lakh, they are expecting the number to cross 25 lakh. Considering it’s a public holiday on August 15, the authorities aren’t expecting a significant crowd. However, from the next day, it plans to set up maximum buses outside the Western, Central and Harbour lines.

Similarly, they are planning to stop some routes along the railway routes since travellers will make a shift there, as they eventually step out of their homes amid the backdrop of coronavirus.

Based on a report by the Times of India, an official from the traffic wing of BEST mentioned that end to end journeys from the station to one’s place of work is expected to be in demand. For now, they expect office travellers to be the primary crowd, but once educational institutions open their doors, more commuters are expected.

Additionally, accounts state that the BEST will deploy personnel outside prominent railway stations to understand the crowd. After which they will wirelessly communicate with the control room or nearest depot to request additional buses.
