Indian Railways make the use of the Aarogya Setu app mandatory

The Government of India has made the use of Aarogya Setu app mandatory for the Indian Railways. The Ministry of Indian Railways had earlier tweeted that it is about to start passenger trains. However, to board the trains, it is mandatory for the passengers to have the app.

Although the initial guidelines did not speak of the nature of the app, the tweet by the railways solidified the speculations around the same. The app is said to help contain the spread of the coronavirus and it notifies an individual if he or she comes in contact with a person infected with the virus. This mobile application has been developed by the Government of India in order to integrate essential health services with the people of India amidst the crisis.

Arogya Setu is aimed at augmenting the initiatives of the Government of India, particularly the Department of Health, in proactively reaching out to and informing the users of the app regarding risks, best practices, and relevant advisories pertaining to the containment of COVID-19. It is available in 12 different languages and is set to expand to all 22 scheduled Indian languages.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Railways announced the gradual operation of passenger trains. The Railways has issued the timings of 30 special trains which started May 12 onwards. The trains coming from Howrah to New Delhi started at 5:00 pm.

Apart from this, the train coming from Patna to New Delhi is at 7.20 pm and the trains coming from Delhi to Dibrugarh is scheduled at 4.45 pm. Furthermore, the trains coming from Bangalore to Delhi will be at 8:30 pm. The booking can be done only through the IRCTC website and no tickets will be available at the railway counter. These trains will not have general bogies and not all seats will be available for booking, only a selected few seats can be booked.
