Mumbai might soon witness implementation of Integrated Ticketing System

A proposal for the same has been forwarded to the concerned authorities by the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC). Accordingly, Mumbai might become the first city to to bring its public transport system under the 'One Nation, One Card' scheme

Soon, Mumbaikars might be able to travel in Metro, bus and train under just one ticket as the Centre's prestigious 'One Nation, One Card' scheme is being initiated in the city. Currently, the scheme is in the planning stage and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation(MRVC) is planning to implement it as an attempt to move towards Integrated Ticketing System.

MRVC has forwarded a proposal for the same and is awaiting approval. Once the approval is sought, it is expected that the 'One Nation, One Card' will be first used to get railway tickets. Accordingly, the passengers will be able to travel in Metro and buses too using the card.

The Integrated Ticketing System (ITS) will be implemented in two stages. As a part of Phase I, ATVM machines will be installed at all the railway stations whereas handheld terminals will be introduced on buses. 

After which, the passengers would be able to receive a ticket using the machines. On the other hand, as a part of Phase II, gates will installed at railway stations similar to metro stations.

The ITS will be accessible using Smart Cards. which can be used for all Metro, Local trains, and public buses running in the city.
