Amidst the new parking laws, there wasn't much clarity by the authorities for the alternatives of parking. Recently, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Chief Praveen Pardeshi said that 5 private societies should be identified in each ward where they can lease their parking spaces in the morning as usually, the residents take out their parked cars during the day.

In exchange for leasing their parking space, housing societies can earn by the revenue collected through parking. The civic authorities have further stated that this move will be a boon to high-density areas in Mumbai like Lower Parel, Bandra, Andheri etc. 

However, the residents are not happy with the move as it can pose a serious threat to their security. As stated in Hindustan Times, Vinod Sampat of the Co-operative Societies Residents Welfare Association said that housing society spends lakhs of rupees in their security and maintenance and why would they even allow a stranger to come in?
