International Passengers Arriving in Mumbai Can Now Obtain Quarantine Exemptions
SHARES

Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has announced that it is now implementing revised quarantine rules for international passengers who land in the city. This comes as the Central Government made revisions to the official guidelines a week ago.

These new regulations mostly offer relaxations to quarantine regulations for those travelling from abroad. As per the new rules, those travelling to Mumbai from another country will have to produce a negative RT-PCR test result taken at least 96 hours prior to the journey date. Further, passengers will also have to fill up a self-declaration form 72 hours before their travel date to receive exemptions from mandatory quarantine.

The self-declaration forms can be obtained from the online portal www.newdelhiairport.in. Users can also upload their negative RT-PCR test result on this portal, thus making it easier for international travellers to completely bypass quarantine measures.

Countries like the United Arab Emirates (UAE) follow a similar protocol wherein any person entering the country has to show a negative COVID-19 test result on arrival. There are some quarantine rules in place for those that don’t meet the criteria.

A statement issued by CSMIA read - “An initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Civil Aviation allows international passengers arriving at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to skip the compulsory institutional quarantine. Concessions on quarantine regulations have been made for international passengers travelling due to emergency and those who have undertaken an RT-PCR test within 96 hours prior to their planned journey. The initiative enables arriving passengers to fill the self-declaration form online at least 72 hours before their scheduled travel in order to be exempted from institutional quarantine as mandated by the state of Maharashtra; it helps in reducing the passenger processing time substantially on arrivals.”

CSMIA added that passengers that do not fulfil the aforementioned requirements will have to go through the process of 1 week of institutional quarantine and another week of home quarantine.

The existing regulations for domestic travellers are unchanged, the authorities added. Domestic passengers can be exempt from quarantine if they have a return travel ticket for no later than 7 days after their arrival in the city. All passengers, including those exempt from quarantine, will have to go through thermal scanning, airport officials said.
