Lifeline fast turning into death line: Number of deaths on railway tracks increases

The lifeline of Mumbai is fast turning into the death line as the number of commuters dying on railway accidents has been increasing with every passing day. Last Sunday, as many as 16 commuters lost their life on all the three suburban railway lines. Total 15 commuters died in different accidents on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. With the rising number of deaths, the claim of railway administration for implementing measures to control the number of deaths has been exposed.

As per official statistics, 10 persons die every day on railway tracks in the city. The number of injured persons usually remains high in comparison to deaths. However, the number of deaths has been increasing in last few days and it has crossed the mark of 15 deaths in a day. Two weeks back, 15 commuters had fallen victim to train accidents on Saturday. Crossing railway tracks, catching running train, standing on door steps, etc, are said to be main reasons for fatal accidents.

As per Railway police, as many as 165 commuters have lost their life in last 17 days.
