On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Central Railway will be setting up a special counter at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSTM) which will be operated by all women staff on March 8, 2018, seeking suggestions from women commuters, for making their journey more comfortable. The Railway Administration will screen all the suggestions and will try and implement to some extent.

Along with this, Indian Railways has decided to run its prestigious Deccan Queen Express, deploying an all women crew to commemorate International Women’s Day.

Loco Pilot (Mail) and first woman train driver in Asia, Surekha Yadav will be in the driver’s cabin and she will be assisted by Trushna Joshi, Sr. Assistant Loco Pilot and Sweta Ghone will be working as `on duty guard’ of the Deccan Queen and will wave the green flag on Women’s Day. Not only this, the ticket checking staff, RPF Personnel and an electric technician will also be all women.

This will be the second time where all women employees will be running a local train. Last year, women employees had run a local train from CSTM to Panvel on the Harbour line on International Women’s Day.

Apart from this, the carriage and wagon depot at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) under Mumbai Division has women employees and hence for their benefit, CR will be renovating their changing rooms and will provide several amenities like water purifier, dining table with chairs, dressing table, wall clock, signages, thermos flask, curtains, sanitary pad dispenser with incinerators, which will start functioning from March 8, 2018.
