Hours after announcing unlocking process, the Maharashtra government took a U-Turn on the same. Earlier in the afternoon, Maharashtra government has decided to lift all lockdown restrictions in 18 of the state's 36 districts from Friday, June 4.

There are 18 districts categorised as Level 1. It was said that all restrictions will be lifted in these 18 districts. While, districts in level 5 will be dubbed to be Red Zone and will be under complete lockdown.

However, cities like Mumbai and Pune were not included in the list and shall continue with the existing restrictions. As per the list, Maharashtra's capital and financial capital of the country, Mumbai was placed in Level 2.

Districts that fall in the level 2 category will reopen partially. Gyms, salons, beauty parlours will be allowed to function at 50 per cent occupancy. Section 144 will remain imposed in districts falling under level 2.

Therefore, it was mentioned that the restrictions in Mumbai will be relaxed partially, but the travel by local trains, the city's lifeline, would not be open to the general public as of now. At the moment, the trains will continue to ply for essential services staffers only. However, now with the government planning to relook at things, there is no certainty on when the unlock will happen and how long the Mumbaikars will have to wait to travel by local trains.
