Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, addressed the state on Sunday, November 8, 2020, where he shared information on the steps taken by the government to tackle COVID19 and other issues faced over the last few months.

Currently, Maharashtra is under another phase of lockdown until November 30, 2020, and the local bodies have been asked to stay alert thereby ensure safety among the citizens. Meanwhile, most of the activities in the state have resumed partially, due to which people are gathering in many areas across Mumbai. Data released by the government showed that the number of cases in the state had increased after  Ganeshotsav. With an aim to avoid a similar scenario, CM asked the citizens to not burst crackers during Diwali, as pollution would harm our daily lives and also impact the health, especially during the crisis.

Meanwhile, the general public in the city is waiting for the Mumbai Local Train services to resume. After thorough consideration, the state allowed the trains to resume operations in a phase-wise manner, however, the public is not allowed yet, keeping the growing COVID19 cases in mind. Addressing the same, CM in today's speech said that the government is in talks with the Central Government, and officials will soon announce the decision regarding the resumption of local train services for the public.

At present, only workers from the essential services, Dabbawala, lawyers and women are allowed in the local trains, on a selective basis, with strict protocols on guidelines. Officials worry that the crowd gathering at the stations and in trains would lead to an increase in coronavirus cases.

Further CMO, on Saturday, announced that the religious places across Maharashtra will reopen after Diwali and discussions are being held regarding the same. Since these places are often visited by senior citizens, the authorities at temples and other religious locations will have to take care of the COVID19 infection.

Meanwhile, the government has permitted schools to reopen from November 23, 2020. The decision was taken in the presence of Maharashtra School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad and other officials. CM has directed the department to sanitise the schools regularly, get the teachers tested for COVID19 and ensure safety at all times. Moreover, parents have been asked to not send the children to school if they or anybody in the household have any symptoms related to COVID. The plan to reopen schools will begin in a phase-wise manner, whereby classes will begin initially for students from Class 9-12. Other announcements will follow.
